Counseling - The Preparatory Charter School

The school counseling department at Preparatory Charter provides services and supports to all students in grades 9-12. The department is committed to supporting students’ academic, social/emotional, and post-secondary planning needs through individual student development, maintaining confidentiality, providing assistance with post-secondary planning, and assisting with referrals to outside agencies. Our counselors serve as leaders, advocates, collaborators, and agents of systemic change.

Counseling services provided are individual counseling, crisis response, and consultation with parents, teachers, and other educators. The counselors will teach lessons to all students in grades 9-12, and the lessons are geared toward their target audience. Topics may include the transition to high school; study skills; mental health; stress management; social/emotional learning; career and post-secondary planning; and other subjects as requested or needed. The counselors work closely with all teachers, the Learning Support Department, and staff to ensure the students’ needs are being met.

The school counseling department also offers assistance to the junior and senior classes with test registration for the ACT and SAT. Students will take the SAT in the spring of their junior year. Our College & Career counselor meets one-on-one with 12th grade students for individualized post-secondary planning. Seniors will work closely with their counselor for guidance with the application process to college, trade school, or the military.
